Two men from Iowa face animal cruelty charges after Chicago police arrested them for allegedly cramming dozens of puppies into a vehicle.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Travis Wester and 49-year-old Larry Subject Tuesday morning on the city's West Side, according to Police News Affairs.

Police found a suspicious vehicle parked in the 2500 block of West Cermak and approached it after hearing loud barking, according to police. Inside the vehicle, they found 43 puppies overcrowded in containers without food and water.

The puppies are now in the care of Animal Care and Control.

Wester and Suspect are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
