2 Hurt in Edgewater High-Rise Fire

About 100 firefighters responded to the evening blaze

Two people were hurt Sunday night after a fire broke out in their Edgewater high rise.

Chicago fire officials said the fire was reported around 8:20 p.m. on the 51st floor of a 55-story apartment building at 5415 N. Sheridan Road.

About 100 firefighters reported to the scene with more than 30 pieces of equipment. They were able to get the fire, which was limited to one apartment, under control by 8:37 p.m.

Crews removed two people from the burning apartment in fair-to-serious condition.

They were taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation.

It's unclear how the fire started.
