2 Hospitalized After Being Pulled from Lake Michigan

Two people were taken to the hospital on Saturday after they were rescued from Lake Michigan at North Avenue Beach.

At around 2:20 p.m. two ambulances were sent to North Avenue Beach for two people pulled from the water, according to Fire Media Affairs.

A man was swimming when he was overcome by waves, said Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala. He was rescued by friends and bystanders, said Zala.

When the paramedics arrived, bystanders were performing CPR on the victims.

Both victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Fire Media Affairs said.

One of the victims, a 19-year-old man, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs tweeted. The second victim, a 20-year-old male, suffered a leg injury, Fire Media Affairs said.
