2 Critically Injured in Drive-By Shooting on Northwest Side

The shooting happened near the 4000 block of West Montrose Avenue in the Irving Park neighborhood

Two men are in critical condition after they were shot during an apparent gang-related shooting in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood early Saturday.

The two men were riding in a car in the 4000 block of West Montrose Avenue when another vehicle pulled up alongside and opened fire about 2:30 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.

One of the men, age 21, was struck in the back, the other, a 23-year-old, suffered a gunshot wound to the ear, police said.

Two other people who were in the car at the time were uninjured, police said. The gunmen’s car fled in an unknown direction.

The two injured men were driven to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center for treatment, but were later sent to other hospitals, police said.

One is now at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and the other is receiving treatment at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.

No one was in custody early Saturday as Area North detectives continue to investigate. The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said.
