Two men were charged early Friday with shooting a UPS driver Tuesday morning in the Englewood neighborhood.

James F. Thomas Jr., 19, of the 5100 block of South King Drive, and Shawn M. Scott, 17, of the 7600 block of South Stewart Avenue, were charged at 4 a.m. Friday with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted armed robbery with a firearm, according to police News Affairs.

Cook County Criminal Court Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil ordered Thomas held without bail and set Scott's bail at $2 million.

Thomas and Scott are accused of shooting and robbing a UPS driver at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 6500 block of South Hermitage Avenue, police said.

Thomas and Scott allegedly approached the driver and told him to drive away with them in the truck. The 28-year-old driver refused, exited the truck and attempted to run away, but one of the men shot him in the back as he ran, according to a report from police News Affairs.

Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said the man was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
