2 Charged With Armed Robbery at Batavia Wal-Mart

Woman and 17-year-old tried to steal electronics from the Walmart, police said

A woman and a teen were charged Wednesday with stealing electronics from a west suburban Walmart while armed with a knife.

Kayla Magnuson, 22, of the 300 block of North Brittany Court in Geneva; and a 17-year-old boy from St. Charles tried to leave the Walmart at 801 N. Randall Road in Batavia without paying for electronic items just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement from Batavia police.

Employees claimed that when they approached the teen, he “brandished a large knife” and threatened one employee, police said.

The robbers then walked to a parked vehicle and drove away, police said. Employees got the license plate on the vehicle, which was located hours later in the 300 block of Brittany Court in west suburban Geneva.

The suspects and the stolen electronics were located a short time later, police said.

The 17-year-old and Magnuson were each charged with felony armed robbery, felony robbery and misdemeanor retail theft, police said.

Bond was set at $25,000 for Magnuson, who is next scheduled to appear in court June 20. The teen will appear in juvenile court.
