2 Charged With Robbing Off-Duty Cop

Suspects are also accused of stealing a car at gun point

Two men suspected of robbing an off-duty officer and another South Side man at gun point were arrested and charged Wednesday.

Van Robinson, 17, of the 100 block of East 74th Street and Darrell Magee, 20, of the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue were charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking while armed with a firearm and two counts of robbery with a firearm.

Robinson and Magee are accused of robbing the officer of his police badge and wallet before stealing a car from the other man early Wednesday morning.

Police caught up with the suspects in the stolen car near 7100 block of South Harvard Ave around 3 a.m. They failed to stop for the officers, ran a red light and traveled the wrong way on a one-way street.

Robinson and Magee crashed the vehicle near Clarmont Street and then fled on foot, police said.

Robinson and Magee are expected to appear in bond court Thursday.
