Two men have been charged in the shooting of a Chicago Police officer last week during a confrontation on the city's South Side, according to police.
Donzell Grant, 20, and Cortez Harrington, 24, have both been charged with several felonies, including armed robbery, aggravated battery of a police officer, aggravated discharge of a firearm, kidnapping armed with a firearm, vehicular hijacking armed with a firearm, and attempted first-degree murder.
The shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. Friday near 46th and South Ashland Avenue in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood, according to police. the officer was responding to a report of a store robbery near 43rd and Ashland when the shooting took place.
The officer was taken to Mercy Hospital, where police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said she was "conscious & alert." She was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, authorities said, with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The officer was expected to be released from the hospital.
At least one person was in custody shortly after the shooting, and authorities had been questioning a second person of interest.
An investigation remained ongoing.
