Bail was set Sunday at $1 million for a man accused of rear-ending an Illinois State Police car, injuring a state trooper and killing another man.

Daniel C. Clark, 32, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence in the crash that occurred at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday on I-290 in Addison.

The trooper was assisting Frank Caruso, 44, in the police car with a non-injury traffic accident on eastbound I-290 near Mill Road when the car was rear-ended, an Illinois State Police spokeswoman said.

Caruso, a Brookfield resident, was sitting in the back of the squad car. He died of his injuries.

The trooper was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with a concussion. He is expected to recover.
