Woman Charged With Kicking, Punching Chicago Paramedics

A 19-year-old woman has been charged with a pair of felonies after she allegedly hit, scratched, and kicked two Chicago paramedics while they were trying to treat her Sunday morning.

According to police, paramedics were called to the 2700 block of West 68th Street at approximately 4 a.m. for a woman seeking medical attention.

When the paramedics arrived and began treating 19-year-old Latorya Thigpen, she allegedly punched both victims, causing scratches, abrasions, and bruises. She allegedly kicked and scratched the victims as well, and spat on them as they tried to treat her.

Police say that one of the paramedics lost consciousness as a result of the incident.

Police also say that a disturbance occurred outside of the ambulance while Thigpen was allegedly battering the paramedics, as multiple people began banging on the outside of the vehicle and on the doors to try to get into the back of the ambulance.

Multiple gunshots were heard outside of the ambulance, causing paramedics to drive to another location.

After the ambulance left the scene, paramedics took the woman to Holy Cross Hospital, and after she was medically cleared, she was taken into custody on two felony counts of aggravated battery.

Thigpen will appear in bond court on May 28, police said in a press release.
