Thousands Without Power After Storms Sweep Through Chicago Area: ComEd

ComEd reported the outages were mostly confined to the area's north region near Libertyville

Approximately 18,000 people were left without power following Saturday's severe weather in the Chicago area.

ComEd reported the outages were mostly confined to the area's north region near Libertyville. As of 6 a.m. Sunday, less than 800 outages remained, mostly in Libertyville and Maywood.

Severe thunderstorms swept through the Chicago area Saturday afternoon as it remained under a Tornado Watch and a Heat Advisory. Among the consequences of the storm was a temporary evacuation of the Pitchfork music festival in Union Park and a boat struck by lightning on Lake Michigan.

The Tornado Watch remains in effect for Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee and Will counties until 10 p.m., but the rest of the evening appears to be mostly storm-free. Isolated rain showers may continue through the night, however.
