Teacher Found Living With Student Resigns

DCFS is Investigating the Relationship Between the Teacher and Boy

A Hoffman Estates High School teacher has resigned after district officials learned a male student was living in her home.

Lenore Ulaszek, 36, submitted her resignation to the Township High School District 211 school board on Nov. 10.

Administrators put her on unpaid leave in September after they learned the student was living with her and reported the arrangement to Hoffman Estates police.

The teacher told district officials she began tutoring the boy during the third quarter of the 2010-2011 school year.  She later offered to let the boy move into her home so he could stay at the school when his mother decided to move out of the district before the current school year.

Superintendent Nancy Robb told the Chicago Tribune she placed the teacher on emergency suspension after she learned more about the Department of Children and Family Services investigation into the arrangement, which found "substantiated claims of abuse and neglect" of the boy.

The suspension is considered a disciplinary tactic used when a district employee is accused of “threatened or actual” physical harm or sexual impropriety with a student.

Robb described the woman as an excellent teacher. The math teacher has worked with the district since 2003. She has not been charged with a crime.
