Chicago Cops Honor Fallen Officer

Michael Bailey slain one year ago

The top brass of the Chicago Police Department paused to honor a slain comrade Monday.

Exactly one year ago, Officer Michael Bailey was shot and killed outside his Park Manor home.

Bailey was a month away from retirement when he was murdered.

No charges have been filed in the case, although police recently questioned a prison inmate about the murder and the Chicago Sun-Times reported this month that an arrest in the case was imminent, but delayed, because Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez was on vacation.

At Monday's event, Superintendent Garry McCarthy promised Bailey's family justice in the case.

Bailey's daughter, Jada, is following in her father's footsteps. She's a cadet and will soon become a sworn officer.
