Phone threat about “rats” prompts cancelation

Two area Borders bookstores canceled planned book signings by the son of a reputed mobster following a phone threat.

The Oak Brook location received a voicemail message froma man warning about “rats” signing books in the village, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Frank Calabrese, Jr. was scheduled sign copies of his book about growing up in a mob family at Borders’ Oak Brook store Tuesday and downtown Chicago Wednesday.

Calabrese, Jr. was a key witness in the Family Secrets mob trial in Chicago, testifying against his father and uncle.

Additional signings at Elmhurst College, the Arlington Heights Memorial Library and the Union League Club were expected to go forward as planned, the Sun-Times reported.
