1 Killed, 4 Wounded While Filming Music Video in Auburn Gresham Park

A man was killed and four others were wounded while making a music video at a public park in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood early Tuesday.

The group was at Foster Park in the 1400 block of West 84th Street at about 2:20 a.m. trying to wrap up the production and filming their last take when witnesses say a car pulled up and at least one man got out of the vehicle and fired more than a dozen shots.

The rapper, who goes by ForeignLyfe, said he couldn't get a view of the gunman at the time.

“The camera was on me and the shooting started from behind," he told NBC 5. "So at that point everybody ran, scattered, going their separate ways."

One of the victims, 23-year-old Damond Dawson, suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

ForeignLyfe said Dawson was such a close friend he was like a brother to him.

Damond Dawson, 23, was killed after being shot in the back of the head, police said.

Five people were shot in total, according to police, including Dawson's younger brother.

A 19-year-old woman was shot in the groin and rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.

Three other men, ages 18, 20 and 25, were also shot and drove themselves to the hospital. The 20-year-old was shot nine times in the leg and shoulder, according to police.

Michael Simmons, a crisis responder from Chicago Survivors, fears this is just the beginning of what could be a long summer in the city.

“Unfortunately I was not surprised,” Simmons said. “The beat goes on and unfortunately it’s the same old sad song. We really didn’t get a decline this winter. In fact, the homicides spiked, so when I got the call tonight it was, unfortunately it was business as usual.”

As of Tuesday morning there was no description of the shooter, police said.
