Teen Identified as Sauk Village Shooting Victim

Four people were shot and a 16-year-old boy was killed at a suburban Sauk Village strip mall Thursday.

The shooting occurred at about 1:45 p.m. near the Just Phones store at 1715 E. Sauk Trail.

The Lake County Coroner identified the victim as Nathaniel Burns Jr. of Sauk Village.

Sauk Village Police Chief Timothy Holevis says the shooting was preceded by an altercation between two groups of young adults.

"One of those male adults pulled a handgun from inside his pants and started shooting," Holevis said.

Police say several dozen shots were fired.

Burns was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Of the three injured, one person remains hospitalized in good condition and two were released with graze wounds.

No arrests have been made, but police are looking for a man and a woman in a black 2000 Pontiac four-door vehicle with Illinois license plates V128344.

Police say they have good leads in the case, but aren't sure what prompted the shooting.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from businesses near scene.

The strip mall also houses a barbershop, hardware store, Subway and a cleaners, but most of the activity seemed to be centered around the phone store.
