1 Killed, 1 Injured In Hyde Park Apartment Building

Police say this is the third murder in the Hyde Park neighborhood in as many months

Chicago police are looking for the gunman who killed a man and injured another overnight in the Hyde Park neighborhood, about a half mile from President Barack Obama's Chicago home.

Police said the gunman came into the building near East 52nd Street and South Harper Avenue just after midnight and opened fire on a 39-year-old man and 22-year-old man standing in the hallway

The older man was struck in the chest and died at the scene, police said, and the younger man was shot in the hand and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

There's no word on a description of the shooter or if the surviving victim is cooperating with police.

Police say they are still investigating a motive and whether the shooting is gang-related.

The apartment building is about eight blocks from Obama's Kenwood home. It's the third homicide in the neighborhood this year.

The latest shooting wasn't far from where a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed last week and where 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was murdered in January.
