1 Injured When Alleged Drunk Drivers Collide on Stevenson Expressway

Two alleged drunk drivers crashed into each other on the Stevenson Expressway Saturday on Chicago’s Southwest Side, officials said.

The two-vehicle crash happened just after midnight in the northbound lanes of the expressway near Damen Avenue when the driver of a Mercury Sable parked in the roadway, according to the Illinois State Police.

Another driver in a Scion TC tried to avoid the parked car but could not and crashed into the back, injuring a passenger in the vehicle, police said.

Paramedics took the passenger to John H. Stroger Hospital where their condition was stabilized as of Saturday evening.

According to Sergeant Spight of the state police, alcohol and drugs were involved in the crash.

Both drivers were arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI, Spight said. Their identities were not being released as of Saturday evening.

The crash temporarily closed some northbound lanes of the expressway early Saturday as State Police investigated.
