1 Dead in Police-Involved Shooting at South Suburban Gas Station

A 30-year-old man was fatally shot by police Sunday morning while robbing someone at gunpoint outside of a gas station in south suburban Dolton.

Two officers responding to a call of an armed robbery at a Shell gas station at 1445 E. Sibley Blvd. about 5 a.m. observed a man pointing a pistol at someone outside the business, according to Dolton police. Both officers drew their weapons, and when the robber saw them, he pointed his gun at them.

The officers then shot the man at least once, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death, but could not provide additional details.

The man also hit the robbery victim in the head with the butt of his gun during the attempted robbery, police said. The victim was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, Indiana, where they received stitches.
