1 Dead, 3 Arrested After Indiana Robbery, Chase

A 10-mile chase ensued after police said three men beat and robbed a woman inside her home

A man is dead and three others were arrested after an alleged robbery and 10-mile police chase Wednesday near Valparaiso, Ind.

Police received a call around 5 p.m. from a 52-year-old woman who said three men broke into her home and beat and robbed her at gun-point.

The woman's neighbor followed the men as they left the home and contacted officials. A chase ensued 10 miles away into Hobart, and at the busy intersection of Route 30 and Colorado Street, the suspects' silver, four-door sedan collided with the neighbor, who at some point was shot in the hand.

"There's so many people out there at 5 o'clock on Route 30. [It's] a busy area. There was at least 10 rounds fired by the suspect. It's amazing nobody else was hit," said Lt. David Grissom.

Four men got out of the car after the crash and started running, police said. Nearby FBI agents took one man into custody right away and two others were caught after a brief chase. The fourth man shot himself to death near the crash.

The neighbor and the woman who was robbed were treated at area hospitals.
