One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting outside a Near North Side nightclub where popular rapper Nas was scheduled to host an event following his set at Lollapalooza earlier in the day.
Police said a 32-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen in an alley just before 4 a.m. in the 800 block of North Orleans near Bodi, a River North nightclub. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Another man, 21 years old, was found on a sidewalk outside the club with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Police patroling the area at the time of the shooting said they heard gunfire and saw a man running from the scene. Officers pursued the suspect and one officer discharged his weapon while "in fear for his life," police said. The subject continued to run from officers and managed to escape, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic.
Nas, who performed at the Palladia stage at Lollapalooza earlier that night, was scheduled to be a guest of the venue, hosting an event that was set to take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
He is also set to perform in an official Lollapalooza after show at the House of Blues at 10 p.m. Sunday.
Details surrounding what prompted the shooting were not immediately available, police said. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
At least two other people were shot Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning in Chicago.
A 29-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the right arm and took himself to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in good condition. The man told police he was standing outside in the 3300 block of West Beach around 5:30 a.m. when he "heard shots and felt pain."
Police initially said a man was shot around 6 a.m. near 57th Street and Morgan Avenue after someone opened fire on his vehicle, causing him to crash. The man was said to have suffered a graze wound to the stomach, but doctors later said the wound was not related to the shooting. A 20-year-old woman was also treated for injuries from the crash.
Around 12:15 a.m., an officer's weapon accidentally fired as he was taking a suspect into custody in the West Englewood neighborhood. No injuries were reported from the incident, however.
A 22-year-old man was shot around 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the 6600 block of South Saint Lawrence Avenue. The man transported himself to University of Chicago Hospital with a wound to the left leg. He was listed in serious condition, police said.
