A Humboldt Park man is dead and another person is injured after they were shot while driving on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the Lower West Side early Sunday.
The shooting happened in the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) between the 18th Street and Canal Street exits, about 2 a.m., an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper said.
The driver of the car heard gunshots and realized the car, with three passengers inside, had been shot at, the trooper said. He drove to Rush University Medical Center, arriving about 2:10 a.m. When they got to the Near West Side hospital, a rear seat passenger who was seated on the driver’s side was found dead and another rear seat passenger, who was on the passenger’s side, was wounded.

The other wounded passenger was transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and was treated and released, state police said.
The driver of the car was not injured, and the driver’s side passenger fled the scene, the trooper said.
There were no witnesses to the shooting and state police did not have a description of the vehicle that the shots were fired from as of later Sunday morning.
