A 3-year-old Chicago boy who was visiting a farm in Portage Township Tuesday died after the horse he was riding fell on him.

Amier Sanchez's father put him on the 1000 pound horse named Oreo, but it reared, tossing the boy, and then fell on top of him.

The farm owner Victor Maldonado tells the Northwest Indiana Times that the owner of the horse - a Chicago resident -- invited the boy’s parents to come visit.

After the fall the boy appeared to be in shock, but was not bleeding. He was crying as he was being taken away by the ambulance.  The boy later died at St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart of blunt force trauma.

Authorities are calling it a freak accident.
