A car being chased by Chicago police late Monday night flipped and burst into flames on a ramp for the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) on the Southwest Side, critically injuring two suspects.
The incident started about 11:25 p.m. when officers attempted to pull the car over for a traffic violation near 47th Street and Cicero Avenue, but the vehicle fled onto the Stevenson Expressway and subsequently collided with a Chicago Police squad car near Pulaski Road, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
Illinois State Police responded to the scene of the crash.
Greer said two suspects in the car were injured and were in police custody at area hospitals, but no police officers were hurt.
The suspects' injuries are considered critical, but both are in "stable" condition early Tuesday.
The crash is being investigated by Chicago police, but no charges had been filed as of 1:15 a.m.
