A Chicago woman is suing the House of Blues and a security guard for $1.7 million, alleging the guard assaulted her after she took a picture of the Hanson Brothers' tour bus.
Amateur video, taken on a nearby street after the Oct. 12 concert, showed Brittney Hernandez and another woman in an altercation with a much-larger Darrell Gibson and two other security guards. One of the young girls is trying to get her digital camera back from Gibson, while the other tries to pull the guards off her friend.
The video allegedly shows Gibson -- who is holding the camera at arms length while Hernandez yells at him to give her the camera back -- shoves Hernandez roughly to the ground, causing her to land flat on her back.
Hernandez says the attack was unprovoked and caused personal injury, mental anguish and harm, according to the suit.
Gibson, of Sauk Village, was taken to the Near North District police lockup following the incident and charged with misdemeanor battery.
The suit filed Thursday by Hernandez names both Gibson and the House of Blues, accusing Gibson of negligence, assault, battery, theft and intentional infliction of emotional distress, the suit said. The venue is accused of the same, since they were the employers of Gibson, the suit said.
