Police ID Man Wanted in Gurnee Sexual Assault

Arrest warrant issued for Richard R. Gallatin of Wisconsin

Gurnee police on Monday said they've identified the man they believe abducted a 19-year-old woman from a mall and sexually assaulted her.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 37-year-old Richard R. Gallatin.  The warrant charges him with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of armed robbery, all Class X felonies.

Bond has been set at $1 million.

His last known address is in Southeaster Wisconsin, but also has contacts in Cook County, Northwest Indiana and Arizona, a release from the Gurnee Police Department said.

The woman said a man approached her with a gun in the Gurnee Mills Mall parking lot on June 5 and forced his way into her car.  He made her withdraw money from an ATM in Grayslake and then drove to a church parking lot where he assaulted her.

Gurnee police said they're working with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate to Gallatin, who is to be considered armed and dangerous.  The department provided several photos of Gallatin with varying appearance.  Photos of Gallatin with a shaved head were taken in 2009.  The photo showing Gallatin with hair was taken in 2003, police said.

It is believed that Gallatin has more hair growth that what was recorded in surveillance video footage shot shortly after the alleged assault.
