Retired CPS Teacher Found Dead at Home

A retired Chicago Public Schools teacher who worked at the Brookfield Library has been found dead in her home.

Officers said they were called to the home in the 3300 block of Arthur Avenue at about 2 p.m Monday for a well-being check.

The 65-year-old woman had lived by herself, neighbors said, but they added that a young man moved in about a year ago to help her with odd jobs around the house.

The victim's name has not officially been released.

Police in Brookfield will at this point only describe this as a death investigation.  One man was taken into custody Monday afternoon and is being questioned.

"I hope they figure out what happened and who did this," said next-door neighbor Toni Adane.  "She was a very nice lady, and caring. She helped us nurse some baby raccoons that ended up in the yard."

As of 8:30p a State Police CSI minivan and a police squad car remained parked outside the cordoned-off home.
