What's shaping up to potentially be the worst snowstorm of the season is dumping flakes all over Chicagoland.
The National Weather Service yesterday issued a Winter Storm Warning for blizzard and white-out conditions starting Tuesday evening and running through Wednesday.
Six to 12 inches of snow could blanket the city and suburbs by Wednesday.
Chicago's Snow Command has released a full fleet of trucks Tuesday to combat the slick conditions on the area roads. About 275 snow fighting trucks are patrolling streets, marking just the second time the full fleet has been deployed all year.
CTA officials, already anticipating long lines for buses and trains, advise riders to get to their stop up to 45 minutes early.
Air travelers might want to check on their flight before they leave the house. More than 500 flights in and out of Chicago' O'Hare Airport have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Southwest Airlines has stopped all flights at Chicago's Midway International Airport as forecasters say a winter storm is expected to bring up to a foot of snow to parts of Illinois.
All flights in and out of O'Hare are reporting delays of at least 90 minutes.
And this is just the beginning.
The warning runs through 4 a.m. Wednesday, with the heaviest snowfall expected Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Overall the storm could last 35-40 hours, affect countless flights, and make three rush hours very hazardous.
