In the latest fallout from the ongoing clout scandal, University of Illinois Chancellor Richard Herman announced he would be resigning from his post effective Monday, Oct. 26.
“Ours is a great institution with its brilliant and hard-working faculty and staff, and its smart and ambitious students, and I plan to continue to contribute to ensuring the bright future of the University of Illinois,” Herman wrote in his letter to the Board. "Thank you for the honor to serve the University. I have enjoyed every minute, in fact, every nanosecond."
Former UI President Stanley Ikenberry will serve as interim president until a permanent replacement is found, according to the News-Gazette.
Herman's name appears often in thousands of university e-mails detailing preferential treatment the school gave some well-connected applicants.
The Faculty Senate last month called for Herman and university President B. Joseph White to step down. White will leave his post in December.
Herman is a mathematician and will become a faculty member. He came to the university as provost in 1998 and became chancellor in 2005.
