North suburban clean up crews are still working to move a series of derailed freight train cars in Northbrook.

At least one of the cars is positioned precariously above liquid propane tanks. Crews fear that car could still shift so the propane tanks are being drained as a precaution.

Shermer Road remains closed between Willow and West Lake Avenue and will likely remain that way for much of the week.

In all, 18 cars derailed Sunday afternoon after a freight train hit another train in suburban Northbrook. The trains belong to Canadian Pacific Railway.

None of the three people who were on the freight train were seriously injured, according to Northbrook Village President Sandra Frum.

This is the second freight train derailment in the area in little over a week.  On Oct. 22, a freight train derailed downtown, snarling Metra traffic for days.

Service for Amtrak and Metra was not affected, spokespeople for both companies said.
