A man who allegedly raped a woman at knifepoint early Thursday in the Logan Square neighborhood was arrested shortly after the attack on the Northwest Side, the Sun-Times reported.
The rape occurred in a backyard in the 2600 block of North Kimball Avenue between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., according to police.
A woman rode her bicycle to a residence and parked it in a gangway when she heard or saw something behind her and screamed as a man in his 20s pulled a knife. The attacker walked her a few yards away and allegedly assaulted her, police said.
He also allegedly said words to the effect of “if you don’t make any noise I will let you go,” according to police, who said after the assault the woman managed to get home and call police at 2:02 a.m.
During the call, the woman gave police a good description of the attacker. She described him as a 5-foot-6 black man in his 20s or 30s with dark skin. He was wearing khaki shorts a brown shirt, a gray hooded-sweatshirt and possibly a black ski mask.
Officers already in the area on an unrelated incident saw the attacker, who then allegedly fled to the Logan Square Blue Line subway station, where he was arrested at 2:11 a.m.
The suspect did not injure the woman with the knife, which was recovered. The woman remained hospitalized and the suspect has not been charged as of 4:30 a.m., police said.
It was not immediately known whether the suspect is connected to any other assaults.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
