Summer school could quickly turn into probation, expulsion or jail time for nine students who couldn’t control their temper.

Nine students were kicked out of summer school after having an off-campus melee that started with an argument in Oak Lawn Community High School lunchroom the the Chicago Sun-Times reported.  The students who initiated the altercation continued it a block away from the high school at a Taco Bell. As many as 25 people were involved in the uproar.

A 17-year-old student received several stitches and more than a dozen staples in his head and arms after being sliced on the arm and face, stabbed in the chest with a box cutter, and being smashed in the back of the head with a pipe.

The few students who brought the weapons could be expelled for up to two years, District 229 Supt. Michael Riordan told the Sun-Times.  School officials will be taking testimonies from students and review police evidence before they make this decision though.

Marwan Matari, 17, received an additional battery charge for keeping a pipe used in the fight in his car and Mowfaq Alsho-weat, 17, was charged with felony aggravated battery for hitting the victim with the pipe, police said.

Eight students were charged with mob action.  They are scheduled to appear at the Bridgeview Courthouse on July 20.

Too cool for school? After standing in front of a judge, these students probably won’t think so.
