Attack by squeegee isn’t very common. In fact, we’ve never even heard of it. But for a clerk at a gas station on East Main Street in St. Charles, the experience was all too surreal on Sunday around 1:30 a.m.
St. Charles resident Roger Alder, 24, stated the incident started when the clerk sent him to the “wrong bathroom” at the gas station. Then Alder announced the employee “was an idiot,” CBS 2 reported.
According to police, Alder and two other people bought items from the gas station, then hung in the parking lot for a while. Once his accompaniments left, Alder walked back into the station with the squeegee and hit the clerk in the head.
While holding the doors shut and keeping Alder inside, the clerk called the police. Alder ended up breaking the $10 squeegee when he hit the door with it, trying to get out, police said. This would later cause him to be charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
When the police arrived, Alder refused to come out and then ran off through a rear door police said. He was caught nearby on Industrial Drive and handcuffed, but not before one officer sustained an elbow to the mouth and the other received a finger injury. They weren't the only ones to come away with injuries, Alder sported scrapes on the right side of his face.
Alder was charged with felony aggravated battery and earned a second felony charge of resisting a peace officer.
He was freed on bond, but is scheduled for a July 17 hearing in Kane County court.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the attack, police said.
