Human Bones Found in Forest Preserve

Cook County Forest Preserve workers in north suburban Niles found human remains in a wooded area Saturday afternoon.
Workers at Bunker Hill Woods, near West Harts Road and West Touhy Avenue, found a sleeping bag containing badly decomposed skeletal remains early Saturday afternoon, Cook County Forest Preserve District spokesman Steve Mayberry said.
Because of decomposition, the age and gender of the remains were impossible to determine upon discovery, Mayberry said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office had not identified the body or determined an age or gender as of Sunday afternoon. A Sunday autopsy is pending, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Niles police are investigating.
