The family of Michael Scott may seek their own independent autopsy in hopes of unraveling more clues about the School Board Chief’s shocking and sudden death.

"The family is considering [an independent autopsy], but no decisions have been made,'' a family spokesman told the Sun-Times. "It would not be unusual for the family in this situation to take such action. . . . The circumstances warrant a full investigation."

Scott’s family, however, is not calling for a state or federal probe of his death like a group of ministers did Wednesday.

Scott’s body was found floating in the Chicago River Monday morning. He looked to have died from an apparent suicide.

Police have yet to rule the death a suicide, but much of the evidence points to a self inflicted wound. On Wednesday Police Supt. Jody Weis announced that investigators found gunshot residue on Scott’s left hand.

Cops also tracked down the people whom Scott called on his cell phone -- which was found near his body. They said he didn’t say anything that would indicate he was about to kill himself. Scott did not send out any text messages, police said.

Still, the investigation continues.
