Residents Voice Concern About ‘L' Closures

CTA says closures will reduce commute time

Train riders voiced concerns Thursday about a proposed CTA rehabilitation and modernization plan that could close five "L" stations.

The last of four community meetings about the plan was held in Evanston Thursday and attracted residents who said the plan to close Foster and South Boulevard Puple Line stations felt like a step back, the Sun-Times reports.

For one family, closing South Boulevard means a farther walk to the Howard Red Line stop to head downtown.

But CTA officials said reducing the number of stops would ease commute time, because trains could travel faster.

Other proposed closures include the Jarvis, Thorndale and Lawrence stops on the Red Line. Repair to aging sections of tracks and renovation to other stations also are included in the plan.
