Indiana Man Dropped TV on Brother-in-Law's Head: Cops

Caught him in bed with estranged wife, say officials

A South Haven man is in jail after allegedly dropping a TV on the head of a man he caught with his estranged wife, reports the Post-Tribune.

See? TV does cause violence.

At about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, William Smith, 46, arrived at the Valparaiso motel where his estranged wife, Cora Smith, 44, had been living since they separated, said police.

The couple's adult son and the son's girlfriend reportedly accompanied Smith. Officials said Smith banged on his wife's door, announcing that he was from the Valparaiso Police Department.

When Cora opened the door, Smith wasn't happy with what he saw. Smith's brother-in-law, 48-year-old Myron Burton of Pontiac (Illinois),(sister's husband), was naked on the bed, reports the Northwest Indiana Times.

It's like a sleazy daytime talk show waiting to happen.

Smith had no interest in talking out his feelings. After a brief scuffle Smith picked up the motel room TV and slammed it on Burton's head, according to the Post-Tribune.

Please stand by. Technical difficulties, for sure.

When police arrived on the scene, Burton was unconscious on the floor, a pool of blood collecting around his head, according to a police report.

Police located Smith approximately a half-hour later and arrested him, charging him with aggravated battery, domestic battery, criminal recklessness, and disorderly conduct. According to the Northwest Indiana Times, Smith faces over 44 years in prison if convicted.

Further charges are pending, based on the outcome of Burton's injuries.
