Plainfield Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Pfc. Andrew Meari was killed during an attack by insurgents

A soldier from Plainfield was one of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan during an attack by insurgents.

The Department of Defense reports that Pfc. Andrew N. Meari, 21, died when insurgents attacked his unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan with an improvised explosive device.

Also killed in the attack was Spc. Jonathan M. Curtis, 24, of Belmont, Mass.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. They were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
