NBC 5 and NBC Chicago Win 11 Emmys

Chicago media stars celebrate 50 years.

NBC 5 and NBC Chicago.com won 11 Emmys Saturday night as Chicago media celebrated 50 years of excellence at the Midwest Emmy Awards.  

Station Manager  Frank Whittaker and General Manager Larry Wert were on hand for the evening at the Hyatt McCormick Place.

NBC 5's awards included the station's coverage of the Chicago Auto Show led by executive producer Matt Piacente, Rob Stafford's investigative series on the Lane Bryant murders in Tinley Park and Target 5's Lisa Parker and Robin Green for their investigation on CFL recycling.

The creative services team received honors, including Steve Boal and Mark Cassidy's promotions for the morning show and the Chicago Sky as well as an Emmy for set design by Bill Bartelt. 

The NBC Chicago digital team was also recognized in four separate categories. Marcus Riley and the Street Team won for their on-line coverage of Looptopia as well as for entertainment with Nude Hippo. Sports executive producer Tony Capriolo received an Emmy for his podcasts and Ryan Pollyea won for his tongue-in-cheek webisodes, Tales from the Tower, about life at NBC.

Ginger Zee received a best weather anchor Emmy for the second year in a row.

 Among the media elite presenting awards this year were NBC's Lester Holt, Jim Ruddle, Bill Kurtis, Walter Jacobson, and John Callaway.
