Was Michael Scott's death a suicide?

More than two dozen ministers and activists say no. They don't believe the Chicago School Board President killed himself.

The group, some friends and family of Scott, spoke at an afternoon press conference and called on state and federal authorities to conduct their own investigations, beyond what Chicago police are doing.

They said there's no way Scott would have taken his own life. They pointed to comments he'd made recently about his ex-wife's death and how he had to help his grieving children.

Scott's body was found early Monday partially submerged in the Chicago River. He'd been shot once in the head, and the medical examiner's office has ruled the death a suicide. The police department, though, hasn't ruled out homicide and is continuing its investigation.
