A teenager has died after driving his car in the wrong direction and crashing head on into another vehicle on the Edens Expressway.

Illinois State Police say an 18-year-old man driving a 2003 Honda south in the northbound lanes of the Edens Expressway (I-94) struck a northbound 2004 Acura head-on and sideswiped a northbound 2004 Subaru around 11pm Wednesday.

The driver of the Honda was reportedly dead on the scene.  The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office says they aren't releasing his name pending family notification.

The driver of the Acura was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Subaru was not injured.

It was not immediately known why the driver of the Honda was driving the wrong way and State Police aren't sure yet whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

All northbound lanes were temporarily closed after the crash, but all lanes were reopened about 1:30 a.m.
