Man Charged in Parking Box Thefts

Police say 20 parking boxes have been stolen since Oct. 17, only four have been recovered

A 38-year-old man has been charged for allegedly stealing several parking boxes from the streets of Chicago, police said.

Jeffrey Kaput faces four felony theft counts, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.  He was ordered held on $200,000 bail during a Wednesday court appearance.

The 38-year-old was arrested on Monday after police received a tip that his car had collided with one of the LAZ parking boxes. Police also have video from a surveillance camera of a suspect dumping one of the meters out of the same vehicle.

Only four out of the 20 parking boxes stolen since Sept. 17 have been recovered, according to the Chicago Tribune. Police continue to investigate the thefts.
