“Mom, I have too much candy!”

That’s among the phrases that you’re not likely to hear out of a kid the day after Trick-or-Treating.

But some area dentists are doing their part to cut down post-holiday over-consumption. They’re saving teeth from rotting and making the troops smile in the process.

Jeffrey Grimley is offering $1 per pound for extraneous sugary treats at his Naperville dental office. He took deliveries of extra candy from cold-hearted parents and shipped the extra sweets to the troops through a California based non-profit called Operation Gratitude.

"I have three kids of my own, and we used to have lots of extra candy," Grimley told the Chicago Tribune.

Grimley, and about 30 other area dentists, registered their offices on Halloweencandybuyback.com, and started taking donations.

Grimley took several deliveries through Monday, the biggest drop off weighed 13 pounds. That’s a lot of candy, and a lot of wasted Trick-or-Treating.
