Jeniffer Hudson lost her family in a tragic, violent crime last year in her home neighborhood of Englewood, Chicago. But even that extraordinarily jarring event can't dampen her love for Chicago.

She says she plans to come back to the city to raise her family, according to a Access Hollywood interview that aired Tuesday.

"Chicago would definitely be it because that is where all the family is," Hudson said.  "I feel like he should be surrounded by family."

The Oscar and Grammy winner who recently gave birth to son, David, said she'd like to have another child and move back to her hometown with fiance David Otunga, the Sun-Times reports.

"That's where the biggest support system is and if we live somewhere else, then we will have to bring family wherever we are," said Hudson, who has learned to rely on sister Julia after last year's murders of their family members.

"You know, we are family. All we have is each other," said Hudson.

On Oct. 24, 2008, Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death in their Englewood home.  Three days later, her 7-year-old nephew was found dead of gunshot wounds, allegedly at the hands of her estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour.

Hudson's ABC holiday special, "I'll Be Home for Christmas," which airs next month, will include locations from her childhood.
