A father filed a breach of contract lawsuit Wednesday against his son, claiming he took more than $125,000 in Cubs tickets from the elder and his company.
Gerald S. Adelman -- owner of the insurance brokerage firm Gerald S. Adelman & Associates LTD. -- claims his son and former employee, Stuart F. Adelman, took more than $128,000 in Cubs tickets between 2007 and 2010, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
The suit claims the father and son made an agreement in 1993 where Gerald Adelman would pay for the tickets, Stuart Adelman would make the actual purchase and would give them to his father in exchange for tickets to at least one game. Stuart Adelman left the company in 2007, but the Cubs ticket agreement remained, according to the suit.
Gerald Adelman claims his son deviated from the agreement before the 2007 season and kept the 80 tickets worth $400 each for himself. The suit claims Stuart Adelman did the same thing for the 2008 and 2009 season, and cut his father out of the agreement and did not give him the opportunity to buy the tickets in 2010.
The suit claims, among other things, the tickets were a Gerald S. Adelman & Associates commission and the company, not Stuart Adelman, have the right to distribute them.
The seven-count suit is seeking judgment for $745,128 plus interest, punitive damages of $1,816,000 plus the cost of the suit. Gerald S. Adelman is also seeking a judge order his son to return to the agreement and turn the tickets over to him in exchange for at least one game.
