Drunk Man Tries to Steal His Own Mercedes: Cops

Thievery under the influence:

A drunk Addison man tried to steal his own Mercedes from an impound lot but was thwarted by workers who parked tow trucks at the entrance to stop the car, say cops.

28-year-old Socrates Doupis was legally drunk when, after refusing to pay to get his car out, he entered the Northwest Recovery tow lot, found his 2003 Mercedes CLK 500, and tried to drive out.

He immediately backed up into a Ford Explorer.

Doupis was foiled from driving away when lot workers parked tow trucks in the entrance to stop his escape.

Doupis then fled on foot and was found minutes later, cowering behind a gas station.

He was charged with DUI, criminal damage to property, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and leaving the scene of an accident, authorities said.
