Dillinger Film Has Grave Consequences

Even before the new film "Public Enemies" opens in theaters, it's sparked growing tourism at the last site John Dillinger ever visited -- his grave.
Crown Hill Cemetery near Indianapolis is the permanent resting place of the bank robber extraordinaire, played by Johnny Depp in the new film.
Dillinger's grave has always been the most popular spot in the cemetery -- if there is such a thing -- and gawkers over the years have even chipped off pieces of the tombstone. That's happened so much that cemetery president Keith Norwalk told the Daily Journal that Dillinger is now on grave marker number four.
Much of the film was shot in and around Chicago, and historic landmarks like the Biograph Theater, where Dillinger was shot, have also seen more cameras of late. And last week, Depp, Christian Bale, and director Michael Mann were among the glitterati at a red carpet premier of the film at Chicago's AMC River East.
If you're in the mood for a macabre road trip, here's a map of the Crown Hill Cemetery that will take you to Dillinger's grave. You can even take a guided evening stroll through the graveyard on July 25 to visit Dillinger and other notables' final resting places.
The film opens Wednesday everywhere.
