The 4th of July falderol has officially begun. With a bang. In a crapper.

Someone decided to use fireworks to blow up a "Port-A-Potty" (insert sophomoric bathroom jokes here) at Diversey Harbor Thursday night.  Now the Chicago police Bomb and Arson unit wants to find out who's behind it.

In what we can only describe as fairly basic police work, the Town Hall District lieutenant said it appears to have been a prank.

"There have been damaged port-a-potties before, usually I've heard of port-a-potties being set on fire with some kind of liquid and melted," News Affairs officer Robert Perez said. "But as far as explosives, I haven't heard of anything recently."

Perez said if the crapper culprit is caught, he would most likely be charged with misdemeanor criminal damage to property.  That Class A misdimeanor could come with penalties of up to one year in prision, a cash fine, and anywhere from 30 to 120 hours of community service.

If it does come down to community service, might we suggest cleaning toilets at Chicago Park District bathrooms as a fitting way to fill those hours?
