Whether you call it a church or a cult, the truth is Scientology is a movement that's been gaining ground -- and cash -- since it was first officially recognized as a religion in 1993.  And now, it's expanding in Chicago.

The Church of Scientology announced it will move from its current home in a storefront on Lincoln Avenue to a building it's renovating in Printer's Row. The move is slated for some time next year after the church finishes its $4 million renovation of the building at 650 S. Clark St., the Tribune reported.

And it isn't just Chicago. The Church of Scientology has bought up more than 70 buildings around the world to expand its operation. More than two dozen of those are in the U.S.

The Rev. Jesse Wells told the Trib that the church's new home in Chicago will have entire floors dedicated to counseling, chapel and informational displays for the public.
