Police: Weapon in Hudson Case Recovered

Chicago Police have recovered a weapon they believe could be connected to last week’s slayings of relatives of actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, police sources said Wednesday afternoon.
The gun was recovered by police but has not yet been tested to see whether it was involved in the murders of Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Investigators on the Hudson murder cases are looking at the possibility that more than one person was involved in the killings.
Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said it is generally believed that only one person is responsible for the shooting deaths.
But Weis said every possibility is being examined and the Chicago Tribune reported that there may be evidence of more than one person being involved.
William Balfour, the "person of interest" in the case and the ex-husband of the young Julian King's mother, told his parole officer Friday that he'd missed an appointment that day because he was babysitting.
Later that night, Balfour was picked up as a suspect in the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother and the
disappearance of her 7-year-old nephew.
In records obtained by The Associated Press, Balfour's parole agent said he thought he heard a child in the background during Friday's call.
The 7-year-old nephew of the Chicago singer died of multiple gunshot wounds, an autopsy released by Cook County Medical Examiner Dr. Nancy Jones on Tuesday found.
"The cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death is a homicide," said Sean Howard, a spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The shootings that left Hudson's mother, brother and nephew dead likely stemmed from a series of family arguments, according to a Trib report.
Balfour is being held at Stateville Correctional Center on an unrelated parole violation and police have named him a person of interest. No one has been charged with the killings.
